Visual effects for all kinds of things have been looked over, consistent and relevant themes have been applied across the board - hopefully giving a far more satisfying experience all round (I know that sounds like marketing bluster - but it's the easiest way to describe it - honest.)Ĭityscapes on planets now feature the ships of Elite in the ambient traffic flying about, so the vanilla Freelancer ships are now gone. Weapons loot drops now happen when you destory ships, tractor up those weps and fit them to your ship - including Thargoid equipment :D There's a few new weapons added, inspired by Elite: Dangerous, and other games as well.īounties for killing pirates is now implemented - pirate ships drop ID chips which you can sell at any commodity trader. The game engine simply could not work properly with beam weapons - it's a limition of the game engine, so instead of complaining, I've tried to take full advantage of it. Market prices will be of a similar stamp to theoriginal game as well, though in this mod everything is multiplied by 10 as there are no fractional credits in Freelancer - so where a tonne of food may be 5.5cr in Elite, in this mod it would be 55cr - this multiplier applies to equipment and ships as well.Īll weapons are now "projectile" based, like the original Freelancer game. The planet names, funny descriptions, tech levels, government types and Green Slimy Lizards inhabitants are all here. systems in the top-right of the original game, will be in the top-right of the universe in this mod, and the relative positions between systems will be more or less the same, with a few exceptions. I thought about implementing it as one planet - one star system, but that would have made individual systems a little too similar, instead I have taken the 256x256 grid from the original game and shoe-horned it into a 16x16 grid, this means you get star systems with between 1 and 5 planets (and stations), and means the universe map is reasonably similar (if somewhat simpler) to the original game, i.e. You'll need a clean install of Freelancer.Īdd the mod folder to FLMM's mods directory and use FLMM to apply, or do it the old-fashoined way with a clean install of freelancer, remember to backup then delete your saved games and merge the folders contents.Įvery planet and station from galaxy 1 in the original game is in this mod. And a few little extra features along the way. The 0.3 Update provides a complete weapons overhaul, including new weapons, better suited to the Freelancer game engine (and much better looking too), and some general tidying up of alot of little things that you hopefully did not notice in previous versions, all hopefully aiding in the goal of making the gameplay experience much more fun. The objective of this mod is to get the original 'Elite' universe into the Freelancer game engine. An 'Elite' mod for Freelancer by Matthew Guy (aka Stormprooter)
